Drawing on experiences in nature as a child on family

camping trips in the Darling escarpment, visiting grandparents in the Great

Southern, and building cubbies with friends around the Canning River in Perth,

I returned to tertiary education as a mature-aged student to study

environmental science. My honours project saw me delve into the ecology of

groundwater-dependent flora fringing the wetlands around Perth, and this

propelled my interest in plant life further. I am now looking forward to

discovering more of the mind-boggling floristic diversity and landscapes on our

doorstep and learning lots from Phoenix' botany team.
